Burnout, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and vicarious trauma are on the rise. <\/span><b>More than 60% of the media workers in countries as diverse as <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/60a28b563f87204622eb0cd6\/t\/6285561b128d0447d7c373b2\/1652905501967\/TakingCare_EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Canad\u00e1<\/b><\/a><b>, <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apmadrid.es\/publicaciones\/informe-anual-de-la-profesion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Espa\u00f1a<\/b><\/a><b> y <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundamedios.org.ec\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Utpl_informe-Ecuador-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Ecuador<\/b><\/a><b> reported high levels of anxiety in 2022<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. At least one in five reported depression, and levels of post-traumatic stress disorder and burnout are increasing. Despite this, <\/span><b>mental health struggles in journalism remain stigmatized<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and are seldom openly discussed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To overcome this major challenge and catalyse a mentally healthy work culture in the media, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newselfinvestigation.belenweb.com\/es\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Self-Investigation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a nonprofit foundation led by Pulitzer Prize winner Mar Cabra, presents <\/span><b>the first ever global event dedicated to mental health in the media<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhjournalismsummit.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cumbre de salud mental en el periodismo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Summit, taking place online on Oct 8-10th, coincides with the celebration of World Mental Health Day and this year\u2019s official theme \u201cIt\u2019s time to prioritize mental health in the workplace\u201d. It will be an <\/span><b>inspiring arena for journalists to reflect on their profession, share good practices for mental health, and nurture a global movement <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that prioritizes a healthy work culture in the media sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three-day Summit will take place online and host <\/span><b>70 sessions, workshops, case studies, lightning talks and well-being activities in English and Spanish<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to an audience of more than <\/span><b>2,000 media professionals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from all over the world. In addition, a community of more than <\/span><b>170 speakers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the five continents and representing small independent media companies to big media names such as BBC, CBC or AFP, will cover mental health topics of the utmost importance such as:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Journalists working in hostile environments<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Challenges and strategies of female journalism around the world<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strategies to prevent online harassment, burnout and vicarious trauma<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Duty of care: the role of leaders in the newsrooms<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being a journalist and belong to an underrepresented group<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Summit is <\/span><b>co-funded by the Fred Foundation<\/b> <b>and supported by more than 30 international partners<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> leading the sector worldwide, such as Free Press Unlimited, the American Press Institute, the International Women\u2019s Media Foundation, the European Federation of Journalists or Fundaci\u00f3n Gabo.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Self-Investigation was founded in 2020 by a group of journalists and certified coaches driven by the belief that <\/span><b>mentally healthy journalists are needed to sustain good quality journalism <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that guarantees stronger democracies. Its goal is to empower communication and media professionals, and support media organisations to adopt a healthy work culture so they can take their impact on society to the fullest extent.
